Sen. Niello Opposes Bill that Bans Parental Notification Policies Regarding Child’s Gender Identity June 13, 2024
SB 232 – Mental Health Services May 4, 2023 Modifies the definition of gravely disabled to focus on an individual’s capacity to make informed decisions about his or her personal wellbeing.
SB 264 – Disaster Loss Tax Deductions May 4, 2023 Extends the sunset date by 5 years to January 1, 2029 for the Disaster Loss Tax Deduction. The Tax Deduction provides for automatic disaster loss relief for any disaster occurring in a city or county that is proclaimed by the Governor to be in a state of emergency.
SB 279 – Administrative Regulations May 4, 2023 Would allow business entities to provide public comments on the Standardized Regulatory Impact Analysis (SRIA) development on major regulations (those with an impact of $50 million or greater). This bill will enable businesses to provide information that is important to gauge the cost of compliance of major regulations.
SB 316 – Prevent Serial Theft May 4, 2023 Would charge a serial thief with a felony if they have three or more prior theft-related convictions and are convicted again of a theft-related offense. If passed, this would have to go back to voters for approval on 2024 ballot.
SB 330 – Private Attorneys General Act May 8, 2023 Will notify a business of the right to cure Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) violations and a new requirement that a plaintiff in a PAGA lawsuit specifically identify the harm alleged.
SB 426 – Charter Schools May 8, 2023 Would change the term nonclassroom-based to "flex based education" and add additional examples of instructional models to the definition of flex-based instruction.
SB 481 – Medical Board/Osteopathic Med Board Report May 8, 2023 Requires the Medical and Osteopathic Boards to annually post information relative to practicing physicians and their specialty which would be beneficial for discussions related to access to care and physician recruitment to rural and underserved areas.
SB 522 – Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act May 8, 2023 SB 522 replaces the Uniform Principal and Income Act (UPIA) with the Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act (UFIPA) to recognize the development of modern portfolio theory that allows trustees to invest for the maximum total return, whether the return is in the form of income or growth of principal.
SB 548 – Court Employees – CalPERS Cleanup May 8, 2023 Provides a permissive option for interested courts and the counties to establish a separate CalPERS contract for the court employees.
SB 638 – Flood Control Bond (Eggman and Niello) May 8, 2023 Places a $6 billion flood protection and climate resiliency bond on the statewide ballot in 2024. This legislation is a bipartisan effort to fund infrastructure projects that will protect communities in danger of flooding.
SB 703 – Flexible Workweek May 8, 2023 Allows employees to request a flexible work schedule that allows for working 4 ten hour shifts (without being paid overtime) instead of 5 eight hour shifts (also without being paid overtime).
SB 794 – California Environmental Quality Act May 8, 2023 Would limit challenges and appellate review on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) challenges to 365 days for major commercial, housing, and public works projects over $25 million, and also require disclosure of identity of individuals/groups contributing $100 or more as well as in-kind contributions to a CEQA lawsuit.
SB 858 – Initiative Measures: Title & Summary May 8, 2023 Transfers the duty of preparing the ballot title and summary for a proposed initiative or referendum measure from the Attorney General, a partisan elected official, to the Legislative Analyst, a non-partisan advisor to the Legislature.
SCA 3 – Initiative Measures: Title & Summary May 8, 2023 Would amend the constitution so that the responsibility of drafting title & summary of an initiative statute would transfer from the Attorney General's office to the Legislative Analyst’s office.
