Senator Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) issued a statement after the release of the budget agreement by the Senate and Assembly Leadership:
“A budget is an expression of priorities. It is encouraging to see legislative leadership prioritize higher education. However, the budget still does not fulfill the will of the voters who overwhelmingly supported Proposition 36.
"The one-time $100 million allocation is wholly inadequate to achieve the goals of a treatment-focused approach and self-sufficiency,” he continued. “Above all, I caution that the state will face even more challenging budget years if we do not make substantive changes to ongoing spending problems now.”
