From Politico 4/3/2025: “Senate budget subcommittee No. 4 reviews budget requests from the California Privacy Protection Agency and the Department of Technology. The committee this morning put CDT on blast for missing a key deadline to report financial information about the agency’s ongoing, multi-billion-dollar project to upgrade California’s long-distance internet transmission cables and increase home internet speeds in unserved parts of the state. Senators said the report, due at the end of January, was crucial for assessing the agency’s budget needs as state officials build out California’s spending plan for the next fiscal year. “I have a long fuse. I don’t get irritated about things very often,” Sen. Roger Niello, a Fair Oaks Republican, said at today’s committee meeting. “But I have to say, this is outrageous. Absolutely outrageous. We are over two months past the due date of this report.” CDT officials said the report was coming soon but declined to provide lawmakers with a concrete timeline.”
