Senator Niello’s video statement outlines priorities for spending and calls out inadequate state program spending from recent years. Read an excerpt of the statement below.

“California Senate Republicans want to ensure that the 2023-2024 budget proposal is focused on spending smarter and measuring outcomes.

“When evaluating actual results on core issues like education, housing, jobs, and crime, the unfortunate reality is that California is not performing well, despite the dramatic growth in state spending over the past decade. The state must take pause and address the real needs of Californians.

“If we are smart about managing our budget, we can address the things that matter to Californians: reducing crime, addressing the growing homelessness crisis, empowering job creators, building water storage, and other priorities that commit to improving the quality of life for all Californians."
