SB 1148 – Security Guards

Summary: Currently, the law mandates that the majority of required security officer skills training must be completed after a guard card has been issued. This bill permits applicants the choice to complete all 40 hours of required training before their registration is issued to provide greater flexibility.

By authorizing training to occur prior to registration, the bill allows prospective guards to enter the job market fully certified. The bill does not change the content or quality of the training. It merely adjusts the calendar to better reflect the needs of the industry.
